Teaching
Kostas Kastanas was born in Piraeus, Greece and graduated
first in his class from the School of Drama, National Theatre
of Greece in 1964.
TEACHERS
Kastanas was the student of the Oskar winnng actress Katina
Paxinou and her husband Alexis Minotis, long-time National
Theatre Director, at the school of Drama of the National
theatre and later on with their own company. Among his other
teachers were the directors Alexis Solomos and Takis
Mouzenidis, as well as actors Thanos Cotsopoulos, Stelios
Vokovich, Lykourgos Kallergis , Annna Synodinou, Helen
Chalkoussi, Dimitris Myrat and Dimitri Horn.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Kastanas also has experience teaching young professional
actors. After working as an acting instructor at the Veaki
School of Drama and The Popular Experimental Theatre 's School
of Drama, he spent twelve years (1983-1995) teaching classical
and modern theatre and Greek drama, at the School of Drama of
the National Theatre of Greece. He counts over 250 actors now
active on the Greek stage among his former students. He
recently returned from the United States where he gave
lectures and acting demonstrations in Ancient Greek and
English, at Bradley University (Peoria, Illinois) and James
Madison University (Harrisonburg, Virginia).
